Security Mistakes To Avoid in the Office

Security is not only a concern for your devices, but should is also in your work space. Each employee is guilty of one or more bad security habit; after all, you’re in the office and feel that your sensitive information is safe there. Various parameters are protecting you such as your computer’s firewall, your data encryption solution and the surveillance that is in place. And although these are great security measures to have in place, they will only take protection of your private information so far. According to Joan Goodchild (Senior Editor of CSO), many office workers make the same basic mistakes daily which create additional security risks.

Employees need to be more aware of what information they are leaving laying around for all eyes to see. This information can be anything from sensitive manuals to passwords on sticky notes. Consider whether this information is hidden or not. Unless you have it locked away it is vulnerable. There are plenty of people that can have access afterhours. Also think about downloading apps to your work mobile devices i.e. laptop, phone, tablet etc. Some applications collect sensitive information without you knowing it, so it is important to keep your personal and work devices separate.

Employees need to remember that just because it’s in the office does not mean it cannot get into the wrong hands.
